I absolutely adore her hair and her edgy sense of style. Her name is Julia Sarr-Jamois and she's a 22y/o model-turned-Fashion Editor for Wonderland Magazine. Perfectly Coiffed

[Source: Aminah]
I am on a quest to achieve the perfect the curly fro. I am getting increasingly bored with my hair, and want something a bit bigger than what my braid outs and twist outs give me. This week I plan to experiment with jumbo perm rods, and jumbo flexi rods in hopes that something fab comes out of it. Until then, looking at pics of others rocking their fierce fro's will have to do.

[Sidebar] I think the cut of their hair has a ton to do with the way the fro looks, as it looks like it was "shaped" in it's naturally curly state to achieve a certain balanced look. After looking at these pics, getting my hair shaped is starting to look more and more appealing.

Teyana Taylor, Give Me That Hair

I am in LOVE with Teyana Taylor's hair! And you know what? It matters very little to me if it's hers, or if she purchased it from the local BSS. I would love to rock my hair like this in the coming months. A girl could dream right?

This could be a killer go-to style for any of you that are looking for some protective styling options, just make sure you moisturize YOUR hair, and do so often. I can only think of one brand of hair that would give you similar results, and that is the Curly Kinky Afro Weave from Real Hair Exclusive. The texture of this hair is perfect for giving you that full, wild, look. You could also do a twist out on the hair for more defined curls, for extra ummphh factor get the hair layered so that you get EXTRA fullness around your face, and the crown sections.

I Heart Esperanza Spalding

I absolutely adore Esperanza Spalding! Her hair is a mass of lush, curly goodness, and her voice goes down smooth no chaser. Esperanza gives me Billy Holiday with an Afro-Cuban vibe, check out her videos below!

Affirmation

How ironic that a few hours after I did this post, I ran across this photo and quote from Erykah Badu.

“I know that I want to concentrate more on my inside-pretty than my outside-pretty, because that’s gonna go away But if your inside is beautiful, it never wears away. The light always shows on the outside if you are striving to be good inside.” — Erykah Badu

The Woman Who Follows The Crowd Will Usually Go No Further Than The Crowd. The Woman Who Walks Alone Is Likely To Find Herself In Places She Has Never Been Before - Albert Einstein

I remember in the beginning of my hair journey I played it safe. My braid outs & twist outs needed to be neat, super defined, and most importantly they needed to be tamed. I was honestly afraid of what people would think of me, and didn't want to "scare" a lot of my ultra conservative friends. That surely isn't living for me, and I most certainly can't appreciate ME in all of my glory if I am constantly worrying about what others think. Not only was the decision to go "natural" a result of me wanting healthy hair, but it was also directly related to wanting complete and total perfect peace. I wanted to cease all feelings of insecurity, and be completely happy with myself as-is.

The more I started to accept WHO I was, the more liberated and free I became. Being liberated breeds happiness, it means an extinction of suffering, and desire, and replaces those feelings with that of contentment. I am no longer concerned with how people view me, you see I was created perfect as is. Those silly mores of beauty, and sex appeal mean nothing to me, as I was equipped with everything I could ever need at birth.

I love looking through inspiration pics of women who exude confidence, inner beauty and strength, and wanted to share those with you today.

A little Friday curlspiration for your viewing pleasure!!! I needed it too, as you can see I am still wearing Monday's bun *sigh*

Bad. Bad. Hair

I had one of those really BAD hair days, the kind when everything you do turns out to be a complete and total disaster. I decided to try a honey deep conditioning treatment. Why did I do that? My hair was so stiff and looked all sorts of crazy, I thought it was going to snap and break off. My hair HATES honey on it's own. Duly Noted.

I did my normal routine, and opted for the quick and easy braid out; Yet another disaster, I had some sort of dry, stiff pompadour going on. I really wanted to pick up my pressing comb, like really bad; but instead I started flipping through tons of inspiration pics I have saved on my computer for times like this [I thought about transferring some to the blackberry, but that might be overkill], and a few hours later...I am kind of happy I didn't cave in.  My hair is in a bun now, and it will stay that way until I figure out what to try next. Until then, I will continue to look at my pics..... but I wonder though, how often do these women have bad hair days?

Looking at this pic reminds me of how much I love Mustard colored accent pieces! They can make any outfit stand out. It also inspires me to stop by Forever 21 tomorrow to see if I can find some statement pieces like the scarf she has on. I will let you know what I find....I could use a few new treats after the way things went tonight.
